Reset forgotten windows password from linux

here is a simple way to hack a Windows administrator password using Linux.
You will only need a Live CD, and for this example, we will utilize Ubuntu.

Install a program called chntpw
$ sudo apt-get install chntpw
After successfully installing chntpw, you have to access the Windows NTFS partition by mounting it and allowing read/write support. A good tutorial on how to do this can be found H E R E.
After that, use your command line to navigate to WINDOWS/system32/config
Once inside the config directory, type this command:
$ sudo chntpw SAM
A long display of information will follow. Just ignore them.
Once you are prompted to reset the password, it is recommended to leave the password blank with an asterisk (*).
Reboot, and you can now login to Windows with full administrative access.

When you run a program on your computer, data flows from the hard disk to the program via read operations. The data is then processed and displayed, and finally flows back from the progam to the hard disk via write operations. For example, if you run the Freecell program to play a game, it starts by reading the previously recorded statistics, displaying and altering them as you play the game, and finally writing them back to disk for future reference. Sandboxie changes the rules such that write operations do not make it back to your hard disk.

Protecting your Freecell statistics using Sandboxie may be a good idea when a less qualified player comes along, but you will probably want to play most of your games outside the sandbox. On the other hand, you may want to run your Web browser inside the sandbox most of the time. This way any incoming, unsolicited software (spyware, malware and the like) that you download, is trapped in the sandbox. Changes made to your list of Favorites or Bookmarks, hijacking of your preferred start page, new and unwanted icons on your desktop -- all these, and more, are trapped in and bound to the sandbox.

You could also try a new toolbar add-on, browser extension or just about any kind of software. If you don't like it, you throw away the sandbox, and start again with a fresh sandbox. On the other hand, if you do like the new piece of software, you can re-install it outside the sandbox so it becomes a permanent part of your system. Sandboxie intercepts changes to both your files and registry settings, making it virtually impossible for any software to reach outside the sandbox. Sandboxie traps cached browser items into the sandbox as a by-product of normal operation, so when you throw away the sandbox, all the history records and other side-effects of your browsing disappear as well.

The ActiveX mechanism lets Web sites run little programs in your computer. These are mostly well-natured programs, for example automatic download managers or automatic toolbar installation. Some not-so-well-natured Web sites use this mechanism to install spyware into your computer. You could browse with ActiveX disabled (by turning it off, or by switching to a browser that doesn't offer support for ActiveX), but you would be trading security over functionality. With Sandboxie, you can keep ActiveX turned on, and have both security and functionality.

Have you ever wondered if it is possible to Lock Folder using Notepad?

Well yes it is possible to Lock Folder Without Any Software. This method works fine in Xp/Vista and hopefully upper versions of windows.

Please don't use this method if you are unsure what you are doing, I am not responsible for any damage caused by use of this, though it won't occur if you follow my steps correctly.

Here we start:
Open Notepad from your Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad

Now put the Data Inside the folder Locker and again Double Click the Batch file to Lock it, this will give you a prompt, just Type y and press Enter:

Now keep the Batch File named FolderLock.bat in a different place like your USB Pen Drive so that only you can access the Folder you have locked.

Yes I know its a real pain if it is to be done manually [you have to backup files, folders, profiles and then have to locate back your files and profiles and then it doesn't show up automatically etc.]

I will show you a much easier method for backing up and restoring your Firefox Profile or Profiles. This method also will work fine for below browsers:

Follow these steps steps:

01. Go to below link and download MozBackup

And click on install program link to start downloading the software:

02. Once downloaded close your browser and install the software, open the installation file by double clicking it:

Now click on Next button:

Click on I Agree button

Now Click on Install button and then close it after installation completes.

03. Open the software, either through your desktop icon or from Start -> All Programs --> MozBackup --> MozBackup.exe

Once opened click on Next button:

Now it automatically detects the installed browsers on your computer and shows them separately in each line. Choose the browser for which you want to take your profile backup [for me its Firefox] and click Next

04. Now choose the Profile, Save Location and click on Next button:

It will ask you if you want your backup to be password protected or not(depends upon you):

Now check the options which you want to take backup for. When selected click Next button:

It will start backing up. When done click on Finish button to complete the process:

All done

To Restore A Profile in step 03. choose Restore a profile click Next button and navigate it to the saved profile file to start Restoring:

Hide A Drive In 3 Steps

Most of u must have wondered if there exists a way without using software to Hide A Drive completely so that it cannot be viewed or accessed without unlocking it. Well for those who have and who haven't yet, here is a easiest method on How To Hide Any Drive In Just 3 Steps.

Here we go, follow these 3 simple steps:

In my example I will hide Drive Volume G: from My Computer:

After following these 3 steps:

01. Go To Start --> Run or use Win+R keys and type this and press Ok

cmd

For Vista/Windows 7

02. This will open Command Prompt for you. Now type below text and press Enter:

diskpart

Note: In Window Vista and higher you will get a security warning, bypass it clicking on allowing.

Once in Diskpart type below text and press Enter:

list volume

This will list all the partitions. Now as in my example I want to Hide Partition G: and it has Volume no. 10. So my next command will be:

select volume 10

Remember to change 10 with the volume number of your partition you want to hide and press Enter:

03. Now as in my example I am hiding drive G: so my last command will be below and then press Enter:

remove letter G

All done. Now open your computer and see that drive is made hidden:

Now to make a drive Unhidden

Follow first 2 steps as such but in step 3 instead of remove letter G use below command:

assign letter G

For Vista/Windows 7
The commands becomes slightly different here:

assign letter=G

You have successfully unlocked the Hidden Drive.

Format A Pen Drive With NTFS File System

Have u ever tried formatting a USB Pen drive in NTFS Format? But must not have seen any option for this by default in XP. It allows you to only format your USB Pen Drive in FAT or FAT32. But its quiet easy to format it in NTFS.

NTFS allows you encrypting your data which is a feature that is inbuilt in Windows XP and above. It also lets you to add allow and deny permissions on individual files and folders for specific Windows users, something you can’t think of using FAT file systems.

But on the rear side, NTFS file system won't get detected in most LINUX systems. However using NTFS file system also increases your performance and reliability.

So here it is How To Format Your USB Pen Drive In NTFS File System:

Plug in your USB device to any free USB port of you computer.

01. Now click on Start Menu button:

And you will see My Computer icon there. Right Click on it and click on Manage:

02. Once in Computer Management, click on Device Manager and a list will pop up in right hand side window:

03. Now click on Disk Drives, select your USB Pen Drive, Right Click on it and select Properties:

04. This will take you to the properties of your pen drive. Once there, click on Policies Tab. Followed by clicking on Optimize for performance and then finally click on OK button:

05. Now click on My Computer icon on your desktop:

After opening My Computer, Right Click on your USB Pen Drive and select Format:

06. Click on File system drop down menu and you will see 3 options now. Select NTFS and click on Start button to convert it to NTFS File system:

How to enable "disabled" Registry editor

Have you seen anything like this before?

The regedit has been disabled.

If no, you will probably see this on some internet cafes, computers in your school, in public libraries, or even in your friend’s box.

So how do you enable “disabled regedit?”

I’ll tell you 4 ways to get rid of that message.

1. Go to start > run > type “REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f” > and just click ok or press enter.

Note: If u change 0 to 1, registry editing will be disable.

2. Go to start > run > type "gpedit.msc" (that's the Group Policy) > enter or click ok

Click Administrative Templates under User Configuration

Get Windows Vista’s Explorer in XP with ViSplore

With Windows Vista, Microsoft made a major overhaul of the interface of their file manager – the Explorer. The menu bar was gone, breadcrumbs navigation was introduced, search integrated into every window and there was transparencies every where. If you want to have all of these features in Windows XP, then try ViSplore.

ViSplore is an application for Windows XP that brings Vista’s Explorer to XP. ViSplore doesn’t modify Windows XP’s explorer to implement these changes. Many applications had tried it unsuccessfully in the past. ViSplore is a stand alone file manager that is almost a clone of the real Vista’s explorer – the same Aero look, the same buttons, the same breadcrumb navigation. ViSplore doesn’t require any installation and doesn’t make any changes to XP’s explorer. It runs in the system tray and can be launched by clicking on Explorer from the tray menu or pressing Win+W. If you check the ‘Default File Manager’ option in the tray menu, ViSplore becomes the default explorer for Windows. All folder and drives from then on, will open in ViSplore.

Create a secured and locked folder in Windows XP

Here are the steps to create the protected folder in Windows XP:

First create a folder that you will use to store your confidential data. For example, I have created a folder called Fonts at the root of my D drive. Since the hidden folder will bring you to the Control Panel, it’s best to name the folder as one of the programs inside there.

In the same location where you created the new folder, create a new file in Notepad, copy the following below into it, replace Fonts with the name of your folder and save it as loc.bat.
ren Fonts Fonts.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

To save the file as a .bat file in Notepad, just put the whole thing in quotes, like “loc.bat” and then click Save.

Now you should have a bat file named loc in the same directory as your Fonts folder, not inside the Fonts folder.

Create another NotePad file and type in the following listed below and save it as “key.bat”.

ren Fonts.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} Fonts

Now you’ll have loc.bat and key.bat along with your folder. Go ahead and double-click on loc.bat and your folder will turn into the Control Panel and nothing inside can be viewed. Clicking on it will simply bring you to the Control Panel. You’ll notice the icon should have changed also.

To view the data inside your folder again, click on key.bat and your folder will return to normal! Pretty simple!

Of course, keeping the key.bat file in the same folder will defeat the purpose of securing the folder, so it’s best to move the key.bat file somewhere else, or even better, put it on a USB stick or CD that only you can access.

Most people will be probably look at the folder and simply ignore it since it has the control panel icon and it links directly there. Of course, if someone knows this trick also, they can create their own key.bat file, etc and open it back up. However, if you’re dealing with someone who can do all of that, it’s best you check out more advanced 3rd party software to lock down a folder.

ALTERNATIVE METHOD:

If you’re having trouble with the above-mentioned method, then here’s another quick and free way to create a secure folder in Windows XP. There is a very nice program called Free Hide Folder from Cleanersoft that allows you to easily hide your private folders. Download here..

Your folders are completely hidden and you must supply a password to open the program to unhide the folders. The personal edition is free, just click the Skip Registration button unless you’re using it for commercial purposes.

View hidden files with a keyboard shortcut

HowToGeek has come up with an absolutely marvelous solution to quickly toggle the display of hidden files on your Windows computer. Often you have to view hidden files when making changes to system files or configuration files of softwares. Enabling the "show hidden files" option in Windows is a long process. The author of HowToGeek has coded a simple application in AutoHotkey script that runs in the background and toggles the status of the "show hidden files" option with a shortcut key combination - Win+H. There is no user interface to keep memory usage at a minimum, but you can customize with by editing the script which is provided on the site.
Once the application is running, all you have to do is hit the Win+H shortcut key.

And immediately any hidden files will become visible. Hit the same shortcut key and the folders become hidden again.

To make this application auto start, copy it to your startup folder C:\Documents and Settings\%username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Since there is no GUI, the only way to close the application is by killing the process through the task manager.
This application is going to make my life a lot easier. I wish it was available earlier. Download ToggleHiddenFiles.

How to create Windows XP Live CD, complete with preinstalled programs

To create a Windows XP Live CD we will require

1. Bart PEbuilder
2. A CD burner like Nero
3. A bootable Windows XP CD and
4. Some pebuilder plugins to customize the CD.

Step 1: Download PeBuilder from here and install it. Make sure you have enough free space on the drive where you install the program. After you have finished adding all programs it will create an ISO to be burned into a disk. The size of the ISO will depend upon how many programs you add to your live CD. I would recommend atleast 700MB of free space.

Step 2: You may want to set a wallpaper that will appear on the desktop when you boot the CD. For this open the folder where you have installed PEbuilder and replace the file bartpe.bmp with the wallpaper of your choice.

Step 3: Download XPE plugin from here (direct download link). It's the GUI shell of the XP Live CD that will create the XP start button and taskbar. You are free to download as many plugin (applications) you want. Currently there are more than 500 applications to choose from. Both freewares and commercial applications are available. Antivirus programs like Kaspersky, NOD32, Avast; burning program Nero; media players like VLC; OpenOffice, Foxit PDF reader, Acrobat Reader etc are available.

Step 4: After you have finished downloading all your favourite programs, open PEbuider and specify the source path to the Windows XP installation bootable CD. You can copy the CD to your hard disk and point the source to the copied file.

Step 5: Click Plugins and add all the plugins you have downloaded. Since we have added XPE, disable nu2shell and the startup group from the list of plugins.

Step 6: Specify the ISO image file and click Build. The program will integrate the plugins and create an ISO image.

Step7: Burn the image into a disk using any burning software and your live CD is ready.

I. Introduction

A connection between your mobile phone and your pc (via Bluetooth, IrdA or USB Cable)

Download the necessary software:

You also need the Java Development Kit (not Java Runtime) as it's required to run the Sony Ericcson SDK.
If this isn't the first time you are trying this and are without success I will let you gauge by yourself how many of your steps were right and how many were not depending on the success you had, of course you can always undo everything and start from scratch if you feel like it, but its a long process and you've probably had to spend a lot of time just to get as far as you already have, so you can decide for yourself, but i would suggest reading through the entire guide, to make sure you did everything.

II. Setting up a connection

Once you've installed all the software, it's time to set up a connection with your phone.

Start SE Device Explorer. Since the connection proxy isn't set, you'll get an error.

Just ignore and move to the next step.
Go to the "Connection Proxy" window and click on the settings button

Next, you have to pick a COM Port. The COM Port for your Bluetooth or USB connection can be found in the device manager.

Once you have found your COM Port, pick a Baud Rate and click on OK.
Go to the File menu and enable "Serial Networking".

Once you're connected, the Connection Proxy window should look like this.
You can now see which programs are installed on your phone.

If you don't see this, try pressing the refresh button.

III. Installing Opera Mini

Once you're connected, it's very easy to install java applets.

First you download Opera Mini and extract the files somewhere. Then rightclick the opera.jad file and click on "Install on device"
Now you should be able to start Opera Mini with Device Explorer.

IV. Starting Opera remotely via HID

To use your broadband connection you need to start Opera from your PC. But there is an easy way that allows you to remotely open Opera from your PC using your phone!

What you need:
- A working HID profile on your pc and phone
- A tool to determine the Entrypoint and ID of the Opera browser
- A shortcut on your desktop
Download the necessary software:
- minibrowser.lnk (right click -> save as...)
- List.bat (right click -> save as...)
- List1.bat (right click -> save as...)
- Desktop.hid (optional)

First go to Entertainment > Remote Control on your phone and look for the Desktop profile.
If not, download Desktop.hid and send it to your phone via Bluetooth.
Copy minibrowser.lnk to your desktop. The name is not important so you can change it if you like.
Now you need to determine the Entrypoint (1 or 2 digits) and ID (5 digits) of the Opera browser. You can do this by running List.bat.
Once you got the numbers, go to the settings of the minibrowser.lnk shortcut and change the numbers. The first 2 numbers is the Entrypoint and the other 5 are the ID.
You should now be able to start Opera from your phone. To do this go the Entertainment > Remote Control and select the Desktop profile. You can start Opera by pressing the * button on your phone.

Once started, leave Opera running and close the HID as it can interfere with the Bluetooth Connection.
